Gina Fuentes Walker layers plexiglas, glass and color transparencies, creating small and large scale installations of the natural world. Each work begins with a photograph capturing abstract details of the urban landscape she finds in city parks and gardens. Printed and mounted using translucent materials, the image extends beyond its surface to cast shadows and silhouettes on supporting walls and surfaces behind it. Group and solo exhibitions of her work include gallery and site-specific installations in New York, Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, Italy and Germany. Informed by an academic and professional background in anthropology and documentary media, she has been awarded fellowships and residencies from the Smithsonian Institution, Chashama and The Bronx Museum of the Arts. She is a resident artist at Chashama Studios in New York. Fuentes Walker lives and works in New York City.
